Imagine getting 30 minutes to ask Bobby Berk all your burning design questions—or having Mark D. Sikes help you set up for a garden party. Or how about a one-on-one social media lesson with Justina Blakeney? Good news: These can all be yours, for the price of a donation to Habitat for Humanity. It’s all part of the Design Unites auction, a special charity sale that the Hearst Luxury Design Collection (that’s VERANDA as well as our sister brands Elle Decor, House Beautiful, and Town & Country) is putting on to raise money for Habitat for Humanity New York City, the housing nonprofit whose fundraising—like many organizations—has taken a hit during coronavirus. Money raised will specifically benefit Habitat’s COVID-19 Emergency Housing Response Fund.
The sale, which launches today on Charitybuzz, includes around 20 lots featuring friends of the magazines—from Jonathan Adler to Miles Redd. The lots live today will be open for bidding for 10 days. But if you miss out, fear not: We’ll be adding new items and experiences to the site through December, meaning you’ll have plenty of time to bid on a dream experience, and provide valuable housing support while you do it.
“The COVID-19 pandemic is unlike anything our city has ever seen,” says Karen Haycox, CEO of Habitat for Humanity New York City. “What began as a public health crisis has developed in a full-blown housing emergency, and this contribution will help us to reach thousands of New Yorkers and provide them with access to resources, financial assistance, and stable housing.”
